Portco Colom Mallorca: A Dream by the Sea

A few weeks ago, a dream became reality: I moved to Porto Colom, a beautiful and authentic fishing village on the east coast of Mallorca. After five years in the countryside, surrounded by fincas and fields, the pull of the sea brought me back to my favorite port on the island.

It’s quiet, soulful, unspoiled — and full of magic.

There’s still so much to discover, and I’ll keep updating this post with new Porto Colom tips. But for now, here are some of my personal highlights — from food and beaches to nature walks, slow living, and local secrets.

 Sun, Sand & Secret Beaches
  • Cala Marçal; A wide sandy beach with crystal-clear water and gentle waves — perfect for swimming, relaxing, and people-watching. You’ll find beach bars, sunbeds, and easy access to cafés.
  • Platja de s’Arenal: A peaceful beach right beside the harbor. It has a charming local feel, with fishing boats, Mallorcan families, and a quiet atmosphere that makes it perfect for reading, strolling, or simply doing nothing at all.
  • Cala Sa Nau (10 minutes by car): This is one of the most stunning coves near Porto Colom. Surrounded by cliffs and pine trees, it offers turquoise water, a relaxed beach bar, and that natural, wild vibe Mallorca is famous for.
Outdoor Adventures & Nature Walks

Kayaking – Explore Porto Colom from the Sea
Renting a kayak for 1–2 hours is one of the best ways to discover the magic of Porto Colom Mallorca. Paddle out of the calm harbor, glide past fishing boats, and explore hidden sea caves and rugged cliffs only accessible by water. It’s peaceful, energizing, and gives you a fresh perspective on the coastline. You can rent kayaks from Skualo Diving Center or Portocolom Adventure Trips. Go early in the morning or at sunset for the calmest water and the most beautiful light.

Pine Forest Trail – Cala Marçal
Nestled between Cala Marçal and Portocolom, the Pine Forest Trail is a serene escape perfect for mindful walking and barefoot grounding. Beginning at the Cala Marçal car park (or Portocolom harbor), the easy-to-moderate ~6 km loop winds beneath fragrant pine canopies, with occasional glimpses of the turquoise coast. It’s ideal for early morning or golden-hour strolls. For a longer and more varied route, extend your walk via Cala Sa Nau, Cala Mitjana, or other hidden coves, reaching up to ~10 km total. Where to Eat & Treat Yourself in Porto Colom
  • Organic Cala Marçal: Yes, I talk about it a lot — because it’s just that good. What Tony and his team have created over the years is full of love and flavor. They serve fresh, healthy food (with great vegetarian options), along with high-quality fish and meat. Whether you come for a nourishing breakfast or a vibrant sunset dinner, you’ll always feel welcomed. And Tony? Still as passionate and kind as ever.
  • Blau Bar (S’Arenal): My dad’s favorite. Located right on Platja de s’Arenal, this bar feels like a hidden bubble of peace. Perfect for a relaxed morning coffee or a cold drink at sunset. Their seafood tapas are fantastic, and the view across the beach is unforgettable.
  • Puro Gelato: Just steps from the harbor, Puro Gelato serves authentic Italian-style gelato made fresh every day. It’s the perfect treat for a sunset stroll — rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Locals love it, and visitors often return more than once.
Local Life, Markets & Events

Felanitx Market (Sundays): Only 10 minutes away by car, this lively market offers fresh produce, artisan crafts, and a real sense of Mallorcan life. Come early, grab a coffee, and enjoy watching the town slowly come alive with music, chatter, and color.

Summer Events to Look Out For:

  • Summer in Porto Colom is a celebration of tradition, music, and community. In July, the Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen includes a beautiful maritime procession where the Virgin is carried out to sea — a moving tribute to the village’s fishing roots.
  • A true highlight is the Sant Jaume Festival, held around July 25th, celebrating the patron saint of Porto Colom. Locals gather for beach dinners, music, and fireworks. The night ends with a spectacular display over Platja de s’Arenal, lighting up the sea and sky.
  • Throughout July and August, the promenade fills with free harbor concerts — jazz, classical, and local music events by the sea, creating pure Mediterranean vibes. For updates on events and concerts, visit the Mallorca Events Calendar here.
